José Palmeiro’s work is known for the bold colors with which he creates pleasant spaces in a delicate balance between intelligence and sensuality. His painting is based on well-ordered structures over which he places his wide range of colors, at the service of light.

Palmeiro arrived in Paris in 1925 and it was there that he felt the decisive influence of the impressionist and post-impressionist masters. After a first period dedicated to drawing, he evolved progressively towards a predominance of color, which he began to apply in large masses, abandoning gradual changes of tone intended to give volume to his figures in favor of a juxtaposition of planes. His universe became exuberant, emphatic, with perfect harmony and distinct carnality.

Between 1942 and 1946 he worked exclusively for the Elysees Gallery in Paris in the company of masters such as Picasso, Bores, Clavé and Óscar Domínguez. It was during this period that he became interested in light which, rather than highlighting and modelling objects, radiates from them.

In 1948 he travelled to America in search of the inspiration he was lacking in his Parisian haunts. By that time he was already an internationally acclaimed artist, and his work could be seen at the best European galleries. But he felt the need to immerse himself in exotic surroundings in order to continue his creative activity, and that is what he did for almost 10 years.

In the 1970s he began to visit Spain, where he exhibited periodically, particularly in Galicia, where his roots are. As could be expected, this artist who was one of the most outstanding members of the Second Spanish School of Paris has turned into one of the most solid values in the contemporary Art market.
